Riverside Jewel

Willis Construction is proud to announce the completion of the newest addition to the skyline of Riverside, California. The Citrus Tower Corporate Plaza project truly stands out as a jewel located at the corner of University Avenue and Lime Street. It is also very noticeable, even at 65 miles per hour from Highway 91 that borders the east side of the building.

The architectural design expresses a very rich and grand visual for the entire base of the building as well as the multiple colored vertical elements that span upward to the perimeter roof crown. All of this was created with granite-clad GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) column covers; multiple colored GFRC spandrels and column covers; and GFRC cantilevered roof crown. Each bay opening has a two colored arched spandrel with multi-facetted granite clad GFRC column covers at each structural column. The major focal point of the project is the turret-like corner entrance at University Avenue and Lime Street. This corner is the signature feature utilizing the flexibility and beauty of Granite and GFRC that sets it apart. The entrance extends two stories in height that has a compound radius canopy of GFRC panels. From the 3rd floor to the roof, multi-colored vertical GFRC panels give the effect of supporting the roof rotunda.

The project structure is set above a post-tensioned slab, 4 story, subterranean parking garage. This design demanded that the above ground structure be as light as possible. From the beginning of schematic design, Nadel Architects decided the skin needed to be clad with a precast product for its longevity and durability. When the weight of the structure was evaluated, it was determined that the lighter weight of GFRC would be the best option. The ease and cost effectiveness of casting multiple colors in one GFRC panel was welcomed by the owner's budgetary requirements as well.
